To My Scholarship Class

I am trying to make arrangements with the Financial Aid office to have laptops in the classroom next week so that one of their staff members can walk you through the COD Scholarship application. Let me know if you have your own laptop--we may not have enough for the whole class.

I want everyone to apply even if you don't think you qualify so that you can experience completing a scholarship application.

In the meantime,  try writing a brief essay which states your reason for being in college; who or what inspired you to select your major;  and your short and long term goals.

Remember that the first paragraph should be powerful.  Speak from the heart.  Check the archives on this BLOG for tips on writing your essay.  You can also GOOGLE "writing a scholarship essay" for some tips.  I will be giving very specific instructions in class on writing your essay, but, for now, you want to be able to apply for the scholarships which are coming up.  Also, read the section on writing your personal essay in the textbook.

You know where my office is.  That essay is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the application so ask for help if you need it.
