Pathways to Success

Deadline:  March 17, 2013

Up to $2,500 for Community College for one year
Up to $5,000 for Community College for two years
Up to $5,000 for university for one year
Up to $10,000 for university for two years

Eligibility:
  • You or your parents must have been permanent residents of the Coachella Valley over the past 3 years.
  • You must be California high school graduate.
  • You must apply for FAFSA.  If ineligible, you must submit your most recent tax return or W2.
  • You must demonstrate financial need
  • You must be applying as an undergraduate at an accredited academic instutution in the U.S.
  • You must have a high school GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • You must be enrolled full time.
  • You will be expected to sign a contract with Pathways involving you in scheduled events, mentoring, workshops and web based interactions.
  • You will be given preference if you have had previous involvement in college preparation program(s), demonstrate community leadership, have been involved in a career pathway program(s) and are first generation or first in family to attend college.
  • You must submit two letters of recommendation from a Professor, Instructor, Counselor or Community Leader.

Portfolios Due

Please bring COMPLETED portfolios to your next class.

To receive an "A" , you must have the following:
(Must look exactly like the Bookstore copy.)
  1. Minimum of 24 scholarships for which you qualify.
  2. Scholarships posted on Organizer Sheet. (Black pen)
  3. Recorded in Calendar.  (In red for deadline date and green for mailing date.
  4. Filed alphabetically.
  5. Documents (Driver's license or alien registration; copy of social security; birth certificate; FAFSA and SAR report; transcripts) 
  6. Letters of Recommendation (Minimum of three--place in sheet protector with a copy of your Thank You Letter on the backside)
  7. Personal Essay
  8. Completed Personal Data Form
  9. Completed Scholarship Resume
  10. Several copies of the Status Sheet
  11. Flashdrive
  •           Request for Letter of Recommendation
  •           Thank you Letter for the Recommendation
  •           Personal Essay(s)
  •           Personal Data Form
  •           Scholarship Resume
  •           Professional Resume
  •           Cover Letter for Professional Resume
  •           Thank you letter(s) for any scholarships received.
  •           Guidelines for Writing a Letter of Recommendation
(Remember, that you need to make copies before you submit any scholarship applications and complete  a Status Sheet which will be stapled to the top of the copies.)

ONLY scholarship documents should be in the portfolio.  NO other handouts or directions.  Neatness and organization are critical.  If everything is in order, it only takes a few minutes for me to check your portfolio.
          

Davidson Fellows Scholarships

$50,000, $25,000 and $10,000

For extraordinary young people, 18 and younger, who have completed a significant piece of work.

The last six weeks of the semester usually fly by very quickly.  Please get your completed portfolios in no later than the next few weeks.  I will only review them if they are not only complete, but neat and organized.  Remember, your final grade is determined by your portfolio.

COD Scholarship Kickoff TODAY

Today is the day!!  Ninety students have signed up to learn about the new Academic Works program for applying for the COD scholarships--there are about 56 separate scholarships.  In addition, there will be a 20 to 30 minute presentation of scholarship essay writing  tips.

Be sure to start working on your application as soon as possible--you can log on today.  Remember how IMPORTANT your personal essay is.  You want to "hook" the reader and convince the judges that you are the one who is most deserving.

Nat'l Society of Accountants Scholarships

Deadline: March 10, 2013

Eligibility:
  • Students in an accredited two-year college may apply following first semester grades or during their second year if transferring to a four-year institution, provided they are committed to a major in accounting throughout the remainder of their college career, or
  • Students in an accredited four-year college may apply for the scholarship for their second, third or fourth year of studies, provided they are committed to a major in accounting throughout the remainder of their college career.
  • Major in accounting.
  • Maintaining a "b" (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better grade point average.
  • A United States or Canadian citizen (permanent residents are NOT eligible).
High School Seniors or students not yet enrolled in an undergraduate accounting program are NOT eligible to receive NSA Scholarship Foundation Awards.
